Hi, I'm Janice Elizabeth
I'm a professional writer, published author, and storyteller with over a decade of experience helping clients tell their stories, grow their traffic, and connect with their audience, whether it's helping a farmer in Hawaii tell his story to win a $250,000 HDOA grant, writing blogs about high-stakes negotiation for a collaborative divorce lawyer in Seattle, or helping a community bank with its online financial literacy initiative.
As a freelance writer and content creator, I have helped large and small businesses tell compelling stories that drive conversions and grow their brands.
As a college professor at Mohawk College, I helped college students find their voice and start putting their work out there.
As a writing coach, I have helped high school students write compelling personal essays. With the power of their words, my students gained admission to Ivy League universities and some of the top programs of study in the country.

Storytelling has also been a key component of my own healing journey. I’ve used the power of storytelling in my own life to help me gain clarity about my goals, values, and desires; to help me calm my nervous system, and to start to recognize the patterns holding me back in my own life. I've used storytelling to publish my poetry, essays, and fiction in nationally-recognized magazines, and literary journals. My work has appeared in

I grew up in a low-income community in Miami, Florida where our apartment was robbed in broad daylight, and a neighbor was shot outside my bedroom window. In those days, I told myself stories in order to live. I told myself stories in order to survive. My journal was a lifeline, a tether that kept me rooted in what was truly real. My mother suffered from mental illness and my father suffered from severe PTSD as a result of his time in the Vietnam war. My mother joined a high control group before I was born, and my childhood was shaped by a religious community where independent thought was discouraged, guilt and shame were used as methods of control, and where members who dared to leave the fold were shunned.
Words helped me escape poverty of thought and financial poverty.
I went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude from the University of Florida with a degree in English and a minor in Art History and went on to study creative writing at Columbia University. During my time in New York, I worked at an intern at the New Yorker Magazine, worked as an editor at Columbia: A Journal of Literature and Art, and worked as a teacher’s assistant and writing tutor at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice.
With the power of storytelling, I taught myself how to break free of the cycles of self-doubt, and grow my freelance writing business. With the power of storytelling, I earned enough money to buy myself a condo in Waikiki, paid for with money I made from my writing career alone. With the power of storytelling, I finally learned how to break the patterns of my past, leaving behind abusive relationships and friendships.
With the power of storytelling, I left behind a teaching job that no longer served me, and dared to make a living as a writer.
With the power of storytelling, I wrote myself into the adventure of my life, climbing big cliffs and surfing big waves in Hawai’i.
